One of the single most important elements for the fulfillment of the Christmas Bay Foundations’ mission is the nexus of recreation and education. People can be brought out to enjoy a peaceful day on the water, immersed in the beautiful scenery, lost from everyday worries in the open horizon, all while learning about the ecology of the Bay, the importance of the habitat, and its needs to insure a healthy future for generations.
The Christmas Bay Foundation organized an Eco Awareness Trip at Christmas Bay for attendees of the National Convention of Grant Writers held in Houston. CBF board member Don Greene, owner of White Water Sports furnished kayaks to the grant writers for a field trip break at the conference. CBF arranged for Dr Richard Baldauf, Director of Education at the Houston Museum of Natural Science to lead the trip and inform the writers about the ecology of Christmas Bay. CBF created an itinerary for the writers for the day’s activities on Christmas Bay and provided a lunch of gumbo made from the bounty of the bay.
